Nice | Cimiez

Cimiez is one of the most historic areas of Nice and properties for sale in this area reflect this. Originally founded by the Romans as the city of Cemenelum, it was established on the hill of Cimiez, a good distance from the Greek city of Nikaïa, which was situated on the coast.

The rich history of this area remains well preserved and no visit to Cimiez is complete without seeing the ruins of the once great Roman city. The neighbouring Archaeological Museum displays artefacts found on site and gives a fascinating insight into the history of Cimiez.

The 9th Century saw the arrival of the Benedictine monks who founded the stunning monastery, which can still be visited today. The gardens of the monastery offer a sweeping view over the city Nice and the Baie des Anges.

Cimiez flourished in the 19th century and started to resemble the Cimiez we see today. The arrival of the European aristocracy heralded the construction of magnificent residences for them to escape from the harsh winters of their home countries. Queen Victoria is possibly the most famous visitor to the area, choosing the opulent Hotel Regina as her winter retreat. The Hotel Regina is a landmark in Nice. Apartments for sale in The Hotel Regina one of the most stunning examples of Belle Epoque architecture. Sitting regally elevated on the Boulevard de Cimiez, residents enjoy a commanding view of the city and of the sea. The Regina is now a private residence where buyers can own their very own piece of Nice’s history.

Cimiez remains to this day, a very affluent area of Nice and there is plenty of high quality property for sale in Cimiez on offer for buyers. The area is safe and residential. There is little commercial activity, though residents aren’t short of things to do. Cimiez can also boast of being home to two of Nice’s museums; the Musée Matisse and the Musée Chagall. There are a couple of nearby supermarkets in the area, so residents of property in Cimiez do not always have to go into central Nice. However, transport links are good to Cimiez, with several regular bus lines serving the area.

Property for sale in Cimiez mainly consists of apartments, however there are houses and villas to be found, tucked away behind some of the parks and gardens of the area.

Many properties for sale in Cimiez enjoy panoramic views of Nice due to its elevated position. In Bas Cimiez some properties for sale also feature idyllic sea views.

Spacious, bourgeois style apartments for sale in Cimiez sell at prices similar to those of the Musiciens area; approximately 4,000 to 6,000 Euros per square metre. Cimiez, with its leafy, tree-lined boulevards and sumptuous bourgeois buildings, is the definition of elegant French suburbia. If you dream of a quiet, elegant apartment for sale in a plush French neighbourhood, historic Cimiez will be your dream come true.
